Where do we Sail?

Venture Sail is based in Port Hope on the north shore of Lake Ontario. During the 2009 season, Saorsa II will be docked at the Whitby Marina. This location is easily reached by GO Train or car and has excellent support facilities for our clients.

We can, however, move Saorsa II to meet our client's needs.

What do we sail?

Our yacht, Saorsa II, is a Niagara 35 designed by Mark Ellis and built by Hinterhoeller Yachts in 1979, hull number 55. The Niagara 35 is a moderate masthead sloop of 7 tons displacement.

We purchased her in October, 1998. Before us, she had two not particularly careful owners.

Much of the past ten years has been spent upgrading, fixing, enhancing, and repairing various systems. These upgrades include the installation of a new diesel engine, new sails, new running rigging, new wiring and electrical systems, new head and plumbing, new safety equipment, new ground tackle, addition of a Voyager wind vane self-steering unit, and a new propane fireplace cabin heater.

Saorsa II is now a remarkably well equpped vessel ready for serious voyaging.

When do we sail?

Saorsa II is available by appointment for instruction or charter any day of the week. Typically, we start our day at 08:30 and return to the dock by 17:30. Other departure and return times can be arranged.

Who is your Skipper and Instructor?

Wm.E. (Bill) Henry is Saorsa II's owner and skipper. He is an avid yachtsman and mariner with over twenty years of cruising experience. His sailing experiences include offshore passages to and from Bermuda, several cruises in the Hebrides in north-west Scotland, cruising in the British Virgin Islands, as well as many seasons sailing on Lake Ontario.

Why Venture Sail?

Venture Sail is an entrepreneurial dream of William's hatched when he was studying towards a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree at the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto.
